The best definition of a Doula I have ever heard goes like this:
"Doula's are a trained professional who provides continuous physical, emotional, and informational support to their client before, during, and shortly after childbirth to help them achieve the healthiest, most satisfying experience possible." Thanks Google!
But in my mind I think the definition should include something like this:
"Doula's are also your unconditional support and cheerleader, they bring the peace in the seeming chaos, they have the answers for your scary questions, and they are a big fan of YOU."
Whether the idea of a Doula is new to you or you have been studying about natural childbirth for many moons, a Doula can meet you where you are.

Since I was just a child myself, say 8 years old, I loved babies. My mom has snapped countless photos of me cuddling my younger cousins. This transformed into babysitting as a pre-teen, being a summer camp supervisor in high school, and pursuing a degree in Psychology in university.
Since university I have worked in various fields trying to find the right fit for me. I worked as a support worker for adults with disabilities, I ran a large Youth program, I even worked in a psychiatric care home for a while. It wasn't until one day I stumbled upon the word Doula on my Facebook. There it was, the dream job, right under my nose this whole time.
Being a Doula not only combines my love for the amazing intricacy of the human anatomy and the beautiful journey we go through to bring life into this world, but also my love for walking alongside people in this special season. I love babies, love tiny baby shoes, and chubby cheeks. But I also love answering the questions you find scary, helping you navigate and understand all the options you have, and help you stand strong in your parenthood.
This job is a blessing to me and I hope I can be a blessing to you.
love, M
